In March 2018 Beijing Sanlian Hope Shin-Gosen Technical Service Co. Ltd (SLHP) acquired 80% of the shares of Polymetrix AG, while 20% of the shares remained with Bühler AG in Switzerland. The strategic orientation of the new owners allows Polymetrix to grow rapidly and provide additional technology and engineering solutions for the polymer industry and plastics recycling industry.
The successful commissioning of the world’s largest bottle grade PET resin lines in China is marking another milestone in the up-scaling of SSP technology. Compared to conventional SSP technology the specific energy consumption per ton could be reduced by 50%. Each of the two world scale SSP lines has an annual production capacity of 570’000 tons.
In 2018 Polymetrix was awarded contracts for the production capacity expansions of various major bottle grade PET producers in Europe, Africa, China and South East Asia. The additional SSP capacity of totally more than 1’000’000 tons per annum will reach the markets in 2019 and 2020.
High viscosity resins for industrial yarn grades are another major area of application for SSP technology. During 2018 Polymetrix was awarded with orders to build twelve new IDY SSP lines in China, Europe and South East Asia. The line capacities are in the range of 70 to 130 tpd and will add a total of 450’000 tons per annum of IDY grade PET resins in the market.
Polymetrix’s SSP decontamination technology is a key process for the recycling of post consumer PET bottles into food grade resin for up to 100% reuse. Polymetrix was the successful bidder for major integrated PET recycling projects in Europe and Asia in 2018.
The new projects include two important novelties Polymetrix can now provide to the markets.
Polymetrix engineers fully integrated plants from post consumer PET bottles to food grade pellets. The first integrated rPET plant built by Polymetrix will start-up end of 2019.
Polymetrix has developed a new small scale SSP technology for recycling capacities of 1,000 kg/hour and 1,500 kg/hour. The first small scale rPET SSP lines will be coming on stream in the third quarter of 2019.
