Dynamic Modifiers, LLC introduced its new PAL…VersaCHAR, a non-halogenated compound for demanding industrial and commercial uses. The compound is flame retardant. Flame causes char bodies to rapidly form on the compound surface, protecting against additional flame and delaying heat transfer. The compound has bead tested to 1,950° C with no polymer flaming drips. The compound has passed ASTM E84 (Class A) with a 15/10 rating, which includes “clean” smoke generation of only 2.3 percent of allowable ASTM smoke limits.
The compound is light-weight, 1.0 specific gravity, 100% non-toxic in every respect, including heavy metals, halogens or VOCs, fully sustainable and LEED capable. It is also hydrophobic, printable, displays extreme chemical resistance and excellent cold crack performance, and is able to be custom tailored for specific needs. The PAL…VersaCHAR compound can be produced as a flexible film, sheet, coated fabric or molded to shape or over-molded to most materials. As a polymeric compound, it can be cast or calendared. It surface chars quickly to prevent flame spread and rapid self-extinguishing burn behavior, protecting any underlying substrate to which it is adhered.
